“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!””
— John 20:19 (NIV)
The Hebrew word behind most of these passages is shalom (wholeness, things set right), which is why the peace in this rotation is sturdier than a quiet feeling. It appears as a blessing spoken over a whole nation in Numbers 6, as a guard posted over hearts and minds in Philippians 4, as the thing Jesus says he leaves behind in John 14, and as a fruit that grows rather than a switch that flips in Galatians 5. Some of these verses describe peace with God, some peace with other people, some peace in the middle of a night watch. The rotation cycles through all three.
This page serves one verse from the peace rotation each day, the same verse for every visitor on the same Central-time date. Read John 20:19 in its full chapter here: read the whole chapter.
