Christ has won the decisive victory — over sin, death, Satan, and every opposing power. Christians live in the wake of that victory and look forward to its full manifestation. These verses are for spiritual battles, hard days, and the call to live as more than conquerors through Christ.
“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
More than conquerors — through Christ.
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The victory is given by God through Christ.
“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”
Faith overcomes the world.
“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it [the cross].”
Christ's cross-victory over the powers.
“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ.”
God always triumphs in Christ.
“These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings.”
The Lamb's final victory.
Live in Christ's victory. Don't fight as if defeat is possible — the decisive battle is won. Stand in the strength he supplies (Ephesians 6:10). Trust Romans 8:37 — you are 'more than conqueror' in him. The final victory is sure (Revelation 17:14). Walk in confidence.
Christ has won decisive victory over sin, death, and Satan at the cross (Colossians 2:15) and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:57). Believers are 'more than conquerors' through him (Romans 8:37). Christian life is lived in the wake of his victory and looking forward to its full manifestation at his return.
(1) Trust Christ's finished work — Romans 6:6, the old self was crucified. (2) Walk by the Spirit — Galatians 5:16. (3) Use Scripture — Christ defeated temptation with 'It is written' (Matthew 4). (4) Pray. (5) Submit to God; resist the devil (James 4:7). (6) Stay in community. (7) Confess when you fall. Victory is positional in Christ; progressive in daily walk.
Romans 8:37 — 'more than conquerors through him that loved us.' Not by self-effort but through Christ. The strength is his. The 'more than' means: not just barely surviving but triumphing — turning even suffering into gospel-shaped victory. Stand in him; the battle is his.
At Christ's return. Revelation 17:14 — the Lamb overcomes all enemies. Revelation 20-22 describes the final defeat of Satan and the new creation. Christians live now in the 'already' of Christ's decisive victory; the 'not yet' of final consummation comes at his return. The end is sure.
