Starting a business is exciting, risky, and uncertain. Scripture has much to say about diligent work, wise stewardship, integrity, and trust in God's provision. These verses are for the launch day, the long hours, the financial pressure, and the daily decisions of running a Christian-honoring enterprise.
“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
Commit the business to God; he establishes the plans.
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
Work as service to Christ.
“The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.”
Diligence and careful planning pay; haste fails.
“A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.”
Honesty in business is a delight to God.
“Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city... whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow... ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.”
Plan humbly under God's sovereignty.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
God supplies — even in lean seasons.
Commit the business to God (Proverbs 16:3). Work with excellence (Colossians 3:23). Plan diligently but humbly (James 4:13-15). Maintain integrity in every transaction (Proverbs 11:1). Provide good service. Give generously (Proverbs 3:9). Treat employees and customers well. Trust God for provision; do your part well. The Christian business owner is steward and witness.
The Bible affirms enterprise and work (Genesis 1:28; Proverbs 31; Colossians 3:23). It commends diligence (Proverbs 21:5), integrity (Proverbs 11:1), wise planning under God's sovereignty (James 4:13-15), and entrusting work to God (Proverbs 16:3). Business is a legitimate calling that can honor God and serve neighbors.

Pray (Philippians 4:6-7). Plan diligently (Proverbs 21:5). Take counsel from wise advisors (Proverbs 11:14). Make the best decision you can with the wisdom you have. Then trust God with the outcome. Submit plans to him — 'If the Lord will' (James 4:15). Take faithful steps; leave outcomes to him.
