Moving — to a new city, a new house, a new chapter — is one of life's stressful transitions. Scripture is full of moves: Abraham left Ur, Israel left Egypt, the disciples left their nets. These verses are for the boxes, the new keys, the unfamiliar streets, and the prayer over the new place.
“Be strong and of a good courage... for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
God goes with you to the new place.
“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee... And I will bless thee.”
Abraham's call — leaving for blessing.
“LORD, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.”
God himself is the deepest home.
“Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them... And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away.”
God's word to the exiles. Bloom where you are planted.
“In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
The ultimate home Christ prepares.
“For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.”
Every earthly home is temporary; the heavenly home is permanent.
Bless the new home. Pray over each room. Memorize Joshua 1:9 — God is with you wherever you go. Build (Jeremiah 29:5) — plant, decorate, settle. Seek the peace of the new place. Get connected to a local church quickly. Bloom where you are planted.
Joshua 1:9 — 'the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest' — is the classic. Psalm 90:1 — 'LORD, thou hast been our dwelling place.' Jeremiah 29:5-7 — God's word to exiles to build, plant, and bless the new city. John 14:2 — the ultimate home Christ is preparing.
Read Joshua 24:15 — 'as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.' Pray over each room — children's bedroom (Psalm 127:3), kitchen (gratitude), entrance (Psalm 121:8). Some Christians anoint the doorframes with oil (Exodus 12:7 imagery). Invite a pastor or Christian friends to pray with you. Above all, settle the home in Christ, not just the address.
Spiritually: pray, attend a local church, get plugged in. Practically: unpack, set up familiar items, establish routines. Relationally: meet neighbors, host hospitality (Hebrews 13:2). Remember Jeremiah 29:7 — 'seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away.' Bloom where you are planted.
