The Bible is full of miracles. They are signs of God's power and reality. These verses celebrate God's miraculous work and equip the believer to pray with expectation.
“If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”
Faith opens the door.
“With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
No limit to what God can do.
“Behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power... there is nothing too hard for thee.”
Nothing too hard for God.
“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.”
Beyond what we ask or think.
“He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he also do; and greater works than these shall he do.”
Jesus' promise to his followers.
“Grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.”
The early church's prayer.
Pray for miracles. Trust God's power. Combine bold prayer with humble submission — 'thy will be done.' Remember: God's greatest miracle was the resurrection.
Christians differ. Cessationists hold that 'sign gifts' ended with the apostolic age. Continuationists hold miraculous works continue. All agree God can do anything (Matthew 19:26), and accomplished the greatest miracle — the resurrection.
(1) Pray boldly. (2) Pray specifically. (3) Combine with humble submission. (4) Pray persistently. (5) Receive whatever God does — miracle, 'no,' or 'wait.' Trust him.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:14 — without it, Christianity is empty. The resurrection is the foundation of the gospel and proof of Christ's divinity.
