The Bible promises a future day when Christ will judge the living and the dead (Acts 17:31; 2 Timothy 4:1). Believers' works are evaluated (2 Corinthians 5:10); unbelievers face the great white throne judgment (Revelation 20:11-15). The day is certain; the time unknown (Matthew 24:36).
Judgment day is one of the most sobering and most certain teachings of the Bible. Several biblical truths. (1) Judgment is certain. Acts 17:31 — 'because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness.' Hebrews 9:27 — 'after this the judgment.' (2) Christ is the judge. John 5:22 — the Father 'hath committed all judgment unto the Son.' 2 Timothy 4:1 — 'the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing.' (3) All will be judged. 2 Corinthians 5:10 — 'we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.' (4) For believers — the bema seat. 2 Corinthians 5:10 evaluates Christian works for reward. 1 Corinthians 3:13-15 — works tested by fire; some receive reward, others suffer loss, but the believer is saved. This is NOT a judgment of salvation; that was settled at the cross. (5) For unbelievers — the great white throne. Revelation 20:11-15 — those whose names are not in the book of life are judged 'according to their works' and cast into the lake of fire. (6) The basis. Believers are judged in Christ — clothed in his righteousness (Philippians 3:9). Unbelievers are judged on their own works. (7) The day is certain; the time unknown. Matthew 24:36. Live ready. (8) The judgment is comprehensive — every word (Matthew 12:36), every deed (2 Corinthians 5:10), every motive (1 Corinthians 4:5).
“Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained.”
“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body.”
“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it... And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God... and the dead were judged according to their works.”
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”
“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.”
“For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ... So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”
Believers — pursue faithful works knowing they will be evaluated (1 Cor 3:13). Unbelievers — repent and trust Christ NOW. 2 Cor 6:2 — today is the day of salvation. Live with eternity in view. Don't fear if you are in Christ — Romans 8:1, 'no condemnation.'

Yes — but not for salvation. Believers appear at the 'bema seat' of Christ (2 Cor 5:10) where their works are evaluated for reward. 1 Cor 3:13-15 — works tested by fire; some bring reward, others result in loss, but 'he himself shall be saved.' Romans 8:1 — 'no condemnation' for those in Christ.
No one knows. Matthew 24:36 — 'of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven.' What we know: it follows death (Hebrews 9:27) and comes at Christ's return. Live ready, not date-setting.
Trust Christ now. Romans 10:9-10. For believers — pursue faithful works (1 Cor 3:14), share the gospel, store up treasure in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21). For unbelievers — come to Christ today (2 Cor 6:2).
